| Many times we are asked if it is
necessary to have a US Bank Account. It is not only a great convenience but is a necessity
when you have a US Mortgage. Since the US
Patriot Act went into effect it has become increasingly difficult for non-residents to
open a bank account. Some bank staff think that it is impossible to open an account for a
non-resident, this is not so. It is always best to get a recommendation to a specific bank
branch or personal banker from your real estate agent or mortgage representative. You will
need proof of your identity (copy of your Passport) to open an account and we would
suggest that you open the account with a minimum of funds say $100-200 only. You can then
have any additional amounts wired (telegraphic transferred) into the account. This way it
is clear to the bank where your funds have originated from rather than them be suspicious
as to the source of your funds. |
